Billing and ownership
Workspace ownership and billing responsibility are separate. The owner controls workspace administration. The payer is responsible for its subscription and has access to the associated payment methods and invoices.
Subscriptions belong to workspaces
Section titled “Subscriptions belong to workspaces”Each workspace has its own subscription and validation usage. An active subscription in one workspace does not activate another workspace. Membership alone does not require you to become its payer.
To activate a new workspace, select it and follow Activate your subscription as its owner. Review the rates shown on the subscribe page before choosing Subscribe & Activate. Checkout returns to the workspace that started it.
Owners and admins can open Settings → Billing. Owners manage the selected workspace’s subscription. Only its assigned payer can open the payment and invoice portal. If the same payer funds several workspaces, that portal may show their invoices across those workspaces; subscription controls in the dashboard apply to the selected workspace.
General, Members, Billing, and Advanced settings remain accessible without an active subscription, according to your role.
Transfer ownership
Section titled “Transfer ownership”Only the current owner can transfer a workspace, and the recipient must already be a member.
- Invite the new owner if they have not joined yet.
- Open Settings → Members and find them in the Members table.
- Select Transfer ownership on their row.
The recipient becomes the sole owner. The former owner becomes an admin. The workspace keeps its data, API tokens, and subscription.
Ownership transfer does not move billing responsibility. The existing payer remains responsible until billing handover completes. A new owner does not gain access to another person’s payment methods or invoice portal.
Hand over billing
Section titled “Hand over billing”After ownership changes, the new owner can take over payment from Settings → Billing.
- Find the Billing handover card.
- Select Accept billing responsibility.
- Complete the payment setup and return to Billing.
- Check the handover state and scheduled start date.
For an active subscription, the new payer takes over at the next billing period. Until handover completes, the old payer remains an admin and cannot leave, be removed, or be demoted below admin. Where offered, Cancel handover cancels the handover; it does not undo the ownership transfer.
Subscription cancellation and resumption controls are unavailable while a handover is pending or scheduled. Finish or cancel that handover before making another subscription change or transferring ownership again.
If payment setup is incomplete, return to Billing to finish it. If the replacement payment fails, UnwrapEmail does not fall back to charging the previous payer. Billable operations can pause at the handover boundary until the new billing assignment is ready.
Leave a workspace
Section titled “Leave a workspace”Admins and members can open Settings → Advanced and select Leave workspace. Leaving removes your access to that workspace; your account, other memberships, and the workspace’s shared data remain.
Owners must transfer ownership first. Assigned payers must complete billing handover before leaving. Workspace API tokens are not revoked when a person leaves.
Delete a workspace
Section titled “Delete a workspace”Only the owner can delete a workspace from Settings → Advanced. Follow the deletion form’s confirmation instructions.
Deleting a workspace removes its data and access and cancels its subscription. Other workspaces and the payer’s billing history remain. Use this for a workspace the team no longer needs; use Leave workspace when you only want to remove your own membership.
Personal account deletion lives in Profile, not workspace settings. Before deleting your account, transfer or delete any workspaces you own and resolve any workspace billing responsibility you still hold.
